Course-Chess

Sharpen your mind while having plenty of fun! Playing the game of chess can provide this for you. Whether you are a beginner just starting out, an intermediate player or an advanced player with more experience, there is something for you.

In the Beginner level, we will learn about the battlefield, the chessboard. The pieces and how they move will be introduced (King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight and Pawn). We will learn the differences between Check and Checkmate. Learning how to checkmate your opponent’s King when you are ahead will be explored. How one should start a game of Chess and general opening strategy will be touched upon.

In the Intermediate level & Advanced level, we will go into more detail about some of the tools you can use to win your games! Forks, pins, skewers, deflection & decoy, discovered attack, removing the guard and other tactics will be looked at. Refining our understanding of opening strategy further will also be on the menu. Instructive Chess games of the past are to be played over to see how the past masters did it!

For all levels, practice of the ideas and themes learned in class will be done through full class interactive Chess puzzles. Friendly round-robin tournaments conducted weekly will be organized. We welcome you to our program!
